Sponsorships

Maplesoft is actively involved in a wide range of sponsorships on a global, national and local level. Events, community, and education programs all provide us with an opportunity to showcase our products, build relationships and understand the changing needs of the marketplace.

Below are a few recent activities sponsored by Maplesoft:

The 23rd Annual Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Conference on Undergraduate Mathematics
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Conference on Undergraduate Mathematics spotlights and celebrates the accomplishments and work of undergraduate mathematicians. The Conference invites three talks from professional mathematicians, and all other talks are contributed by undergraduate students on mathematical topics. Appropriate material for contributed talks runs the gamut from challenging class projects to expository talks on interesting mathematical topics to work done with a faculty member or research done in an REU.
The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge
The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge is a yearly activity of the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC), University of Waterloo. The program is designed to provide an extracurricular mathematics activity during the fall term for both senior level students, and to motivated younger students who have done some enrichment study beyond their school year, and particularly to those enrolled in fall semester courses who are looking for a mathematics enrichment challenge. Participants take part in various levels of competition that act as a qualifying paper for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad.

Summer Educational Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math)
For the past 4 years, Maplesoft has sponsored the Texas A&M University Math Department Summer Educational Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math) Program for middle school students entering the 6th, 7th or 8th grade under the direction of Dr. Phillip Yasskin.  As part of the program students learn to make computer animations using Maple, how to count in complicated situations, how to color a map, how to count infinities, solve logical puzzles, and many other interesting problems.

American Mathematical Society Math Games
Who Wants to be a Mathematician and Do the Math! are two games hosted by the American Mathematical Society. These games provide high school students with the chance to compete for cash and prizes by answering multiple choice mathematics questions.
Canada/USA Math Camp
The Canada/USA Math Camp is a summer camp for mathematically talented and mathematically gifted high school students from around the world. It includes advanced mathematical topics not normally covered in high school.
The 2006 Canadian International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Team
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. Last year’s competition was held July 8 – 19, 2005 in Mérida, Mexico.  The 47th International Mathematical Olympiad will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from July 6 to 18, 2006.
The Centre for Education in Mathematics & Computing (CEMC)
The CEMC was created at the University of Waterloo 1995, and for years this group (and its predecessor) has been responsible for operating the annual Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (as well as contests like the Galois, Fermat, and Euclid). The program is designed to provide an extracurricular mathematics activity during the fall term for advanced senior level students, and to motivate younger students who have done some enrichment study beyond their school year. Participants take part in various levels of competition that act as a qualifying paper for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad.
Math Challenge Team Invitational Contest, University of Western Ontario
The second annual math challenge was held at the University of Western Ontario and 72 students from southwestern Ontario Canada competed in teams of nine. The event was very successful this year and a team from Waterloo Canada won.

Mathematical Association of America (MAA)
Since 1972, the MAA has been responsible for running the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO). Their aim through this two day contest is to “provide a means to identify and encourage the most creative secondary school students in the country”. The top 12 students are invited to a special awards ceremony held in Washington, DC, and 6 of these students form the U.S. team that goes on to compete at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS)
Now in its 38th year, the CMS runs the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad. This year, 80 students from across the country were invited to participate based on their results from qualifying events like the Canadian Open Math Challenge. The organizers feel that “preparing for the Olympiad gives students the incentive to explore mathematics beyond the regular curriculum”, and are confident that, “students who participate in these competitions develop the creative problem solving skills so valuable in today's workplace." Winning students go on to represent Canada at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
